That construction youth angle again

I had coffee this morning with Christine Townley, chief executive of the Construction Youth Trust (a meeting arranged through Twitter, by the way – another demonstration of the power of social media), and her colleague Kerry Dickson. We talked about various initiatives to encourage young people to, first, consider, and then make the leap into employment in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry.

(If you haven’t heard about the CYT, please have a look at its website and give them a helping hand – industry people could host a site visit, for example – and you also have until noon on Friday 10 July to vote for its Construction for Communities education project in the National Lottery Awards.)

The Trust is already talking to Constructing Excellence‘s ‘early career wing’ Generation for Collaboration, G4C, with whom I am working (see post) to help them improve their communications, and we talked about the Trust possibly embracing social media as part of its engagement with young people – the so-called Generation Y – much as ConstructionSkills did with its ConstructionGirl121 initiative on Bebo (see post).
