A Twitter alert from a couple of friends this afternoon alerted me to the launch of The Property Network, a new online network site by UBM title Property Week. Built on the Ning platform (which I have used for several networks that I run, including Be2camp and the Constructing Excellence Collaborative Working Champions and G4C sites), it aims to connect “commercial property professionals throughout the UK, providing a platform for debate and collaboration”.
The design and customisation of the site is very polished, as you would expect of a site developed by a professional content publishing house, yet retains many of the features familiar to regular Ning users (though I suspect others will probably be unaware that it’s based on Ning), even if some are slightly changed. For example, what other Ning sites call friends, The Property Network calls ‘connections’ (and some of the 57 early joiners – as at 5pm today – were already busy connecting) – a subtle difference but one that will probably make networking more acceptable to the commercial property people it is targeting.
The navigation bar contains links back to Property Week‘s jobs page and to the main Property Week website – via a button marked PW.COM (short, of course, for PropertyWeek.com – and not be confused with my own pwcom.co.uk).
This is the first Ning site I have seen that has been set up by a major publisher, andI’m looking forward to seeing how it – and its network – develops.
